If you go by recent match-ups, today's clash in Sydney at 10:30pm between South Africa and the West Indies in the ICC Cricket World Cup should go the way of South Africa.

South Africa has dominated the West Indies in their recent series, their only loss came at Port Elizabeth, after they won the series back in January. However, this match is not expected to be a one sided affair.

The Proteas have failed to put in a convincing performance thus far in the World Cup and they have always failed to get it right in at key moments in big tournaments.

Records tumbled at the Manuka Oval and hard hitting West Indies opener, Chris Gayle was responsible for most of them. Gayle became the first batsman to score a double century in the World Cup.  Marlon Samuel and Gayle now has the highest partnership in ODI history, 372, beating Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid 331, the most balls a pair has batted together (298), again removing the same duo.

The openers failed to give the Caribbean men a good start and it was up to the other batsmen to come good and they did, chipping in with some much needed runs the urgency they showed getting the.

For some Caribbean cricket fans it was a day of disappointment, for others it was a result not surprising to them as the West Indies lost by four wickets to Ireland in the opening Pool B match on Monday at the 2015 ICC World Cup in Nelson ,New Zealand.

West Indies' preparations for the World Cup has not been good thus far despite winning against Scotland by four runs in a warm-up match at the famous Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Although the Caribbean pulled off a win by three runs, this was by no means a performance to show their opponents they are ready for the World Cup. This surely leaves Caribbean cricket fans more doubt that they can cause an upset in New Zealand and win the World Cup.

West Indies still has a good unit of players to represent in the ICC cricket World Cup in New Zealand, although missing so much experience and match winning players on their day. The Caribbean team has been undergoing a lot of internal problems but will look to put that all behind them as they chase glory in the centrepiece of World Cricket.
