Stafanie Taylor in with a shot for ICC double award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) in the last 24 hours has released the names of the players who have been short-listed in various categories for the upcoming annual ICC awards ceremony, which will be presented in front of a global audience in the second weekend of November.

According to a ICC media release the period under consideration are the 13 months between 26 August 2013 and 17 September 2014, the LG ICC Awards 2014 will take into account performances by players in what has been a remarkable period for the game.

That period also includes the T20 WC Bangladesh 2014, ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier New Zealand 2014, T20 WC Qualifier UAE 2013, various rounds of the ICC Intercontinental Cup, numerous Pepsi ICC World Cricket League and Championship fixtures, ICC Women’s Championship and several bilateral Test, ODI and T20I series,”

The main West Indian vying for awards is the region’s top female cricket, Stafanie Taylor has been nominated for the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award and the Women’s T20 Cricketer of the Year. She will be challenged for ODI award by, Charlotte Edwards (ENG), Meg Lanning (AUS), Mithali Raj (IND). Raj will also challenge for the double, having been named in the ‘T20 Cricketer of the Year nominees.

Dwayne Bravo has been listed among the nominees for the ICC ODI Team player of the Year. He will be up against the likes of Mohammad Hafeez, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni , Dale Steyn,

Other notable nominees are South Africa’s ODI captain, AB de Villiers, is in line for a double, having been short-listed for both ‘Cricketer of the Year’ as well as ‘ODI player of the Year’ awards. Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and skipper, Angelo Matthews, as well as Australia’s Mitchell Johnson are also in line for the double, having been named in the ‘Cricketer of the Year’ as well as the ‘Test player of the Year’ category.

Corey Anderson, who stormed the cricketing circles with the fastest ever ODI century, against West Indies in Queenstown, leads the nomination for the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ award.

The awards will be announced on 14 November ,2014
