After announcing last month that the 2016 track and field season would be her last competitive season, Jamaican born, United States 400m athlete, Sanya Richards-Ross, is disappointed to be missing what would have been her last Jamaica International Invitational Meet (JIIM).  The event is set to take place this Saturday at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

The giants of North Street, Kingston College and St Jago High from Monk Street in Spanish Town, were left celebrating historic victories inside the Franklin Field Stadium on day three of the 122th staging of the Penn Relays on Saturday, while Jamaica College pulled off a massive upset to stun favourites Calabar High in the High School Boys 4x400m, as the curtains came down on yet another fantastic staging of the prestigious relays.

Reigning Olympic Women's 400m Champion and former World Champion, Sanya Richards-Ross will be making the 2016 track and field season her last. The 31 year old Jamaica born, American 400m specialist announced her intention to retire on Instagram on Monday.

Richards-Ross revealed that the Rio Olympic Games will her last in the colours bearing the Star-Spangled Banner, of United States of America.

Entering her first and the 15th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China, few gave credence to the fact that one Shericka Jackson had the goods in her locker to match up with the world's best, at her international championship debut.

But lest we forget, Jackson herself made it clear what her intentions were for the 2015 season when she spoke to Yardie Sports in back April 2015.

The 2014 Diamond League trophy 100m champion Justin Gatlin sped to an astounding world leading 9.74 seconds, in the blue ribband event at the Doha Diamond League on Friday. His time bettered his previous best mark of 9.77 which he achieved in Brussels last September, and now ranks him fifth best on the all time list based on times done over the 100m.

He also snatched the world lead from Jamaica’s Asafa Powell, who had done 9.84 seconds at last week Jamaica International Invitational.

Asafa Powell is often referred to as the sub-10 King, having run an amazing 84 races at 100m below 10 seconds, the last of which came in Kingston Jamaica last weekend at the Jamaica International Invitational World Challenge Meet.

Photo: Stephenie McPherson will do battle with the American pair of Sanya Richards-Ross and Francena McCorory for the second time in a week after finishing in third position behind them in Kingston, Jamaica on Saturday.

A host of global track and field, World and Olympic stars, will assemble in the Qatar Sports Club on May 15th for the first meet in the IAAF Diamond League Series. The calendar will see fourteen meetings across the world.

According to organizers, thirteen reigning Olympic champions and ten current World Champions will grace the stadium with their presence.
