Heavy favourites Jamaica struggled to get past underdogs Malawi in their final second round match on Thursday night (local time) edging the contest 62-61 to set up a semi-final matchup with hosts Australia.

The Sunshine Girls seemed to be in control of the game up to the half time break winning the first quarter 19-13 and the second quarter 19-16 for a first half lead of 38-29.

Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls succumbed to tournament favourites, the New Zealand Silver Ferns 55-48 on Tuesday, as action got underway in the second round of the Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

Jamaica held a vital three goal half time lead at 27-24 but was unable to resist the second half onslaught of the former champs in a fiercely contested match.

Jamaica rebounded from a gut wrenching loss to rivals England when they stopped Scotland 71-24 on Monday, while shooting at an unerring accuracy of 93% in a totally dominating performance.

Jhaniele Fowler-Reid (59/62) set the tone on offence in the first quarter as she hit all 13 goals from 13 attempts as the Sunshine Girls led 13-6 at the first break on the back of 100% accuracy.
