Bayern Munich secured a favourable draw as they look to defend the UEFA Champions League title they secured only a few weeks ago. In what is the fastest turnaround in the history of the competition, the German champions will face Atletico Madrid, Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow in Group A in the first round of the 2020-21 season.

In Group B, Real Madrid, who have won the competition the most of any club, will face a powerful Inter Milan team along with Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Monchengladbach.

Week two of the new English Premier League season will see the return of the two Manchester clubs who both sat out match day one after extended runs in European competitions.

The Manchester United and Manchester City games originally scheduled for match day one were postponed so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Pep Guardiola will grace the sidelines for the first time on match day two.

France manager Didier Deschamps has revealed that Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has tested positive for the coronavirus, Covid-19.

The 27-year-old will now have to self-isolate for 14 days and will miss France's Nations League game in Sweden on Saturday, September 5th and the home game against Croatia on Tuesday.

England boss Gareth Southgate was forced to drop Manchester United captain Harry Maguire, after a guilty verdict came down in Greece today.

Southgate had kept Maguire as part of his plans after speaking with the United skipper, but was forced to drop him when Maguire was given a suspended sentence for aggravated assault, resisting arrest and repeated attempts at bribery.

Sevilla FC and Manchester United will square off in the first of two semifinals in the UEFA Europa League at the Stadion Koln on Sunday.

Sevilla have won the competition a total of five times, including three consecutive wins from 2014-2016 before their reign was ended by Manchester United who were crowned champions in 2017.

Inter Milan and Manchester United both scored narrow wins over Bayer Leverkusen and FC Copenhagen respectively, to advance to the semifinals of the Europa League on Monday. Both teams will know their semifinal opponents after the playing of the other quarterfinal today.

Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Copenhagen and Manchester United all booked their spots in the quarter final round of the Europa League following wins on Wednesday.

Inter Milan was the only of the four teams to play a single game in the round of sixteen after their first leg game was effectively cancelled in March due to the Covid-19 virus.
