Velocity Fest 9 will mark yet another restart of local track and field today at the National Stadium in Kingston. The meet which is put on by the MVP Track Club will feature a number of the nation’s top athletes, who were only this week named to represent Jamaica at the World Athletics Relays is Chorzow, Poland on May 1 & 2 and is set to last for two hours.

Heat three of the men’s 100m was the closest track event at the final staging of the Velocity Fest track and field series staged by the MVP Track Club on Saturday.

Photo: Elaine Thompson Herah ran a wind aided 10.73s to win the women's 100m at the final in the series of the Velocity Fest Trilogy last Saturday at the Ashenheim Stadium at Jamaica College.

 

 

 

President of the MVP Track and Field Club, Bruce James, is quite pleased with the effort his organization made in staging the track and field event called Velocity Fest Trilogy 2020 during the month of July.

The women’s 400m hurdles final will be an event to watch at the National Athletics Finals tonight. The semifinals of the event took place on Thursday and have set up what is expected to be a sizzling final tonight at 7:50pm.

Omar McLeod created history on Tuesday night when he became the first Jamaican male to win a gold medal in the 110m hurdles at the Olympic Games, blazing to glory in 13.05 seconds. The most consistent male hurdler in the last two seasons, McLeod came into the event the heavy favourite and safely navigated his way to the final with efficient but careful performances in the heats and semifinals.

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, Jamaica’s top female 400m hurdler, Janieve Russell will actually run at the Olympic Games in Rio. Reports coming out of Rio earlier today were that the 22 year old had been left off the list by the Jamaica Administrative Association (JAAA) and would therefore not be participating on the event.
