Ristananna Tracey became only the third Jamaican woman to win a medal in the 400m hurdles at the World Championships when she produced a magnificent late surge to displace the defending champion Zuzana Hejnova from the last medal position and claim the second bronze medal for the country at the games in London on Thursday.

It was another day without medals for Jamaica at the IAAF World Championships on a wet and frigid day in London, England, but despite the lack of podium finishes for the country there were some outstanding performances from which the country will draw many positives.

After running personal bests to qualify for the finals of the men’s 400m at the IAAF World Championships, both Nathon Allen and Demish Gaye finished just outside the medals on Tuesday, placing fifth and sixth respectively in a race won by Olympic champion Wayde Van Niekerk of South Africa in 43.97s. Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas was second in 44.41 and Abdalelah Haroun of Qatar ran on late to snatch the bronze in a season’s best 44.48s.

The Men’s 400m hurdlers set the tone for a good morning for Jamaica on Day three of the IAAF World Athletics Championships as all three athletes navigated the full lap obstacle race to advance to the semifinal round tomorrow.

Six Jamaicans out of a total of eight advanced in their respective disciplines on Friday’s opening night of the 16th IAAF World Championships in London; on the same night that Great Britain’s greatest middle distance runner of all time, Mo Farah, claimed his third World Championship 10,000 gold medal in a row, in his last World Championships.

Veteran sprinter Nesta Carter will replace Kemar Bailey-Cole at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing China after the Commonwealth 100m champion tore his hamstring in training yesterday.
