Olympic Champion Elaine Thompson-Herah delivered on her promise to produce something special when she sped to a world leading 10.85s (0.2m/s) in the Women’s 100m at the Rome Diamond League on Thursday.

Thompson-Herah who isn’t usually the quickest out of the blocks, got a bullet start and that early advantage saw her cruise to victory over a quality field in the Golden Gala Stadio Olympico.

After enduring a forgettable day two and day three at the IAAF World Championships in London, Jamaican track and field fans will be hoping for a better day four and that the country will finally land what has been an elusive gold medal.

The doom and gloom continued on day three of the IAAF World Championships on Jamaica’s Independence Day as odds on favourite for the women’s 100m gold, Elaine Thompson finished fifth in 10.98s in the final, less than two hours after easing to 10.84s in her semifinal.

Defending Olympic champions, new contenders and several past world championship and Olympic team members, past, present and future, all met in big clashes inside the National Stadium on Friday at the ongoing Jamaica National Track & Field Championship.

There were plenty of surprise triumphs on Friday for the younger generation, but Elaine Thompson and Yohan Blake managed to secure another national title in their events.
