Jamaica will face Mexico in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup today starting at 8:00pm local time, in a bid to make back to back visits to the finals of the region’s top football tournament. This will be the third time since 2015 that the two countries are facing each other as the both teams met in the final in 2015 where Mexico won 3-1.

Jamaica will face El Salvador today in their final Group C game of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, already qualified for the quarter final round but with the prospects of winning the group. The game which starts at 4:00pm local time will be played at the Alamodome Indoor Sports Arena, in San Antonio, Texas.

Jamaica’s head coach Theodore Whitmore was pleased to come away with a point against nemesis Mexico last night in their second game of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. A 0-0 draw saw Jamaica earn their fourth point of the competition after a 2-0 win over Curacao to open the tournament.

Speaking with reporters after the game, Whitmore hailed the tactical discipline displayed by the Boyz in earning the crucial point.

A sensational strike by second half substitute Simon Dawkins, in the 89th minute of play, gave Jamaica the vital second goal they needed to beat Nicaragua 2-0. This on the night which secured a 4-3 aggregate for them to advance to the fourth round of qualifications in the FIFA World Cup on Tuesday night in Managua.

Jamaica qualified for their first ever CONCACAF Gold Cup final tonight when they defeated defending champions the USA 2-1 inside the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Heading into the games as huge underdogs, the Winfried Schafer coached team showed good composure early on before having to withstand a period of USA dominance midway the first half.
