Two-time Olympic and four-time World 100m Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, in a social media publication, made it very clear that she is not in support of some stakeholder's viewpoint to push back the Government's decision to restart sporting events locally. Sports was halted early last year due to the novel coronavirus and several major sporting events had to be postponed or cancelled.

Hopes in the sporting world have been dashed once more as the 2021 Carifta Swimming Championship which was scheduled for March 26 – April 7 in Barbados, have been postponed as a result of covid-19.

In a letter to stakeholders, the president of the Barbados Aquatic Sports Association (BASA) Cheryl, Lady Forde stated the decision was taken by executives “to postpone Carifta 2021 after a review of the current covid-19 situation in Barbados and by extension, in the region.”

There was uproar in some quarters in Jamaica when all the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) officials who travelled with the Reggae Boyz to Saudi Arabia for the two match friendly, departed that country while four players who had tested positive for Covid-19, were left behind.

France manager Didier Deschamps has revealed that Manchester United midfielder, Paul Pogba, has tested positive for the coronavirus, Covid-19.

The 27-year-old will now have to self-isolate for 14 days and will miss France's Nations League game in Sweden on Saturday, September 5th and the home game against Croatia on Tuesday.

The sports world was thrown into a tailspin when it was disclosed that Jamaican track and field legend Usain Bolt tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

Bolt revealed that he voluntarily did the test on Saturday, as part of preparations to leave Jamaica for work commitments.

High school sports, which forms the bedrock of sporting activity in Jamaica, was severely affected in March with the arrival of the first few cases of the Covid-19 on the island.
