The Jamaica Premier League will crown a new champion after defending champions Portmore United bowed out of the competition, failing to make the playoffs.
The Stars of the East, Harbour View will be seeking to lift the coveted championship for the fifth time when they take on Mount Pleasant FA on Saturday, September 18 at the Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence at the UWI starting at noon. However, Mount Pleasant Football Academy has started to fire at the right time and could prove too hot to handle.
Having struggled for most part of the season, the Saint-Ann-based club has scored eight goals in their last three fixtures, to secure their spot in the quarterfinals.
Since the appointment of Walter Downes as Technical Director of Mount Pleasant FA, the club's fortunes have since taken a turn for the better. He has altered their style of play and has reaped success for his men in qualifying for the play-offs.
Ludlow Bernard may be counting himself lucky after almost missing out on a spot in the play-offs. The yellow and blue-clad team came out victors against Arnett Gardens in what was an exciting encounter.
Harbour View FC defenders had to clear their goal lines three times in quick succession before veteran Lovel Palmer buried the winner and only goal of the contest in the 70th minute.
That win took them to sixth position leapfrogging both Portmore United and Dunbeholden FC for the final available spot in the knockouts. Tivoli Gardens and Vere United will battle in the other quarterfinal playoff game scheduled for this weekend.
