Portsmouth Primary are football champions of Portmore

Kingston, Jamaica – Portsmouth Primary are champions of the INSPORTS Portmore Primary School Football, following a convincing 3-0 win over Naggo in the final on Monday.

Competition MVP and golden boot winner Dwayne Atkinson scored in the 16th and 19th minutes after teammate Kevon Williams opened the scoring in the 5th minute.

With the game being played at Portsmouth, Williams fired home from a tight angle before Atkinson, who tallied an impressive 16 goals in seven matches, curled a beauty with the outside of his right boot.

Naggo Head fought gallantly particularly after halftime but Portsmouth had inflicted enough damage with three goals in the first half.

With the win Portsmouth, having lifted the netball crown last week, became the first school in the competition to win both football and netball titles in the same season.

In the play-off for third Gregory Park defeated Bridgeport 2-1. Demarco Johnson scored in the fifth and 31st minutes, before Bridgeport’s Jadan Jackson grabbed a consolation on the stroke of fulltime.

Administrative Director of the Institute of Sports, Ian Andrews lauded the efforts of his staff, while acknowledging Hon. Fitz Jackson, Member of Parliament for South St Catherine for helping to finance the competition.
