Round two of the Red Stripe Premier League gets underway today with the usual five sets of games with the feature match being between the two Western teams. Newly promoted Reno FC prevailed 4-3 over Montego Bay United, the defending RSPL champions, in the FLOW Champions Cup recently and this should add some spice to the occasion as both teams battle for bragging rights as to who are Kings of the West.

Both teams ended the first round heading in opposite directions. Reno seemed to be suffering from a Champions Cup hangover, losing their last two matches and slipping down to eighth in the league while the champions have continued their march upwards and ended up in third place. Mobay United will be looking to consolidate their top four position, while Reno must be looking Western Clash highlights start of Round 2 in the RSPL to bring a halt to their slide and head back in the right direction.

In Craig Foster, Reno boasts the league’s leading goal scorer who has already hit the back of the net 10 times but for Mobay United it has been a more balanced approach with Allan Ottey and last season’s finals MVP Dino Williams both leading the way with 4 goals each. When both teams met in the league earlier this season the game ended 1-1 and chances are we may see a similar result this time around.

Reno has scored 17 goals so far this season but has conceded just one less and must sharpen up defensively if they are to head back up the tables. Mobay United has scored 20 in their first eleven games while conceded only nine. With five points between them and the leaders Waterhouse, who play tomorrow, the Carlos Garcia coached team will be looking to close the gap, if even for one day. Based on current form the champions should just be given the edge despite playing away.

A full stadium is expected come kick-off time at 3:00pm at the Frome Sports Complex.
