Reggae Marathon aids Biking Viking’s world record quest

Kingston, Jamaica; Anders Forselius, known as the Biking Viking for his tremendous cycling exploits across the globe, will be looking to make history as the first Swedish person to complete 50 marathons in 50 countries when he completes his 49th marathon at Reggae Marathon 2014 on Saturday, December 6.

Forselius already holds the world record for marathons completed in the most countries in one year, having run in 33 countries from July 2013 to June 2014. The Biking Viking is also the first, and only, Swede to have run marathons in all 50 American States.

“I will become the first Swede to run marathons in 50 countries. Jamaica will be the 49th country and Costa Rica, the following day, the 50th,” said the Swedish marathon enthusiast and journalist. “My next mission is to cycle from Athens, Greece, across Europe, North America and South America to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. I will start the journey at the end of March and I will of course run marathons on my way.”

The Biking Viking along with five US marathoners, have started a new international marathon club called the Marathon Globetrotters, who are also expected at the Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K event on Saturday, December 6.

Over the years, the Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K has entertained a number of journalists from many international countries and 2014 will be no different. With runners expected from over 29 countries, there will be media expected from the UK, Germany, Canada, USA, Belgium, Japan and Sweden in addition to a strong contingent of local media. While some of the media such as Anders Forselius, who writes for the Runner’s World Sweden magazine, will participate in the event others will be there to observe, film or photograph the event.

The 14th staging of the Reggae Marathon and Half Marathon & 10K will take place on Saturday, December 6 with a torch-lit start to the accompaniment of drums at 5:15 am at the Long Bay Beach Park in Negril with the Victory Beach Party and Awards Ceremony set to follow starting at 7:00 am.
