Defending champions Hydel Prep and Lannaman’s Prep earned the right to play in the finals of the JISA/Tastee Prep School football finals on Saturday when they both scored comfortable wins in their respective semi-finals at the UWI Bowl on Tuesday.

In the first game of the double header, Lannaman’s turned the tables on Henriques Cup champions Mona Prep defeating them 2-0 courtesy of two second half goals from Timar Dunn and Kevaughn Wilson.

A pretty even first half gave way to a dominant second half display from last year’s Henriques Cup champions as they dominated the midfield before romping to an easy win. It was sweet revenge for a team that had been denied a chance to defend their knock out title after being beaten by Mona in a penalty shootout in the semi-finals.

In the second game, defending Alberga Cup champions Hydel strolled to the easiest of wins when they brushed aside Hillel Prep 4-0 to sweep into the final set for Saturday. Two goals in either half saw the Junior Bryan coached team secure their spot in the showpiece also set for the UWI Bowl.

Ruboen Brown got the first goal for Hydel in the 18th minute before the competition’s leading scorer Damoy Whitehorne got the first of his two goals three minutes later, to make it 2-0.
.
The second half was only five minutes old when Kiovaughn McDermott made it 3-0 before Whitehorne completed his brace and the scoring in the game with just over 20 minutes left in the contest.

The final is set to be a classic as the league’s two leading goal scorers go head to head for the ultimate prize. Goal scoring machine Whitehorne has amassed a whopping 34 goals in all competitions so far this season, 28 of them coming in the Alberga Cup. Kemoy Waugh has led the way for Lannaman’s with 15 goals way behind the Hydel phenom.

Lannaman’s however are a very balanced unit and will be pushing the defending champions all the way. Having relinquished the knock out crown to Mona they will be keen on wrestling the Albega Cup from the tight clutches of the defending champions.

While Hydel has been dependent mostly on Whitehorne for the goals this season, Ruboen Brown has been a capable partner in attack and will help to keep the Lannaman’s defence honest.

Fan can expect a classic contest which may just be decided by a single goal. Match time is 3:00pm.
