Jamaica College had to work hard to secure a 4-2 win over a determined Camperdown High it was an exciting semi-final encounter in the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup competition on Saturday.. Jamaica College who had not lost a game all season entered the match as favourites.
Jamaica College wasted no time getting in the game an in the 3rd minute Akean Shackleford directed Raffique Bryan cross with his head into the Camperdown goal to give the Old Hope Road boys the lead.
JC looked good after taking the lead built up a rhythm quickly. Not long after they were leading by two goals.
Donovan Segree skillfully worked his way into the Camperdown 18 yard box and held his composure before tryng to direct a pass to captain Junior Flemmings. It ricocheted off a defender and went past the Camperdown custodian Kemo Pinnock in minute 16.
JC expectedly took their foot off the pedal and Camperdown took advantage to get a goal back in the 23rd minute. A brilliant first touch from Ramiesh McKnight was followed up by some fine finishing, giving the Camperdown supporters something to cheer about.
The East Kingston based boys gained confidence from the goal and looked a totally different team, threatening to equalize before the half time break.
But JC stretched their lead to 3-1 through a counter-attack when Raffique Bryan easily tapped home a Junior Flemmings cross from the right-hand side in the 36th minute.
On the resumption, Camperdown started quickly, making plenty of passes in defense and were looking very confident going forward. They were rewarded in the 54th minute when Andre McCatty scored a blinder from the top of the 18 yard box that left the JC custodian a ere spectator as the ball found its way in roof of the net.
It was game on from there as Camperdoen supporters were behind them cheering them to on to get the equalizer.
Camperdown was looking even better and should have gotten the equalizer in the 60th minute. McCatty’s brilliant cross from the left hand side fell to the feet of Tajea Brown who kicked the ball miles over the cross bar to leave the Camperdown supporters disappointed.
In the 71st minute Raffique Bryan saw his shot well saved by the Camperdown custodian as the action swung from end to end.
It was a very entertaining game by the two teams with the midfielders seeing most of the ball towards the end, with Camperdown looking for the late equalizer.
Jamaica College broke and they got their fourth goal on the day through captain Junior Flemmings who dismissed his marker and fired a shot with his left foot that deflected off a Camperdown defender and went into the back of the net in the 2nd minute of stoppage time to put the game to bed.
JC Coach Miguel Coley said he was pleased with the effort of the team and they showed great character and showed the depth of his team. He said he know his players are disciplined and he is expecting them to take home the finals next Saturday when they take on Charlie Smith.
While Camperdown coach Christopher Benter said the early goals and the lack of good decision making was the fault his team lost, but did commend the team for working hard to the last minute of the game.
