The Titans of Preston Hall advanced to the second round of the Sagicor/UWI Guild Champions League on Sunday when they clipped Rebels of Rex Nettleford Hall 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Titans created the better chances early on in a fairly dull first half. The Rebels had a period of dominance late in the half but failed to breach the Titans backline.

The team from Preston got the go ahead goal only six minutes after the restart and despite sustained pressure from the Rebels late in the game, managed to hold on for the win.

The night’s second game proved to be a much more entertaining contest between the Veterans of Irvine Hall and the Dynamites of Chancellor Hall.

In a game filled with goal mouth action it took the Veterans only four minutes to create a goal scoring opportunity but Junior Reid was unable to convert.

The Dynamites took advantage of the let off and scored with their very first attack of the game. Roshane Follett took advantage of a defensive mistake in the Vets backline to slot past the advancing goalkeeper.

The Veterans pressed for the equalizer while the Dynamites were prepared to play on the counter, with their goalkeeper Khalil Robinson doing a great job between the sticks.

The Dynamites held the lead to the half time break despite come under pressure from the slick passing Veterans.
Determined to get something out of the game, the highly fancied Vets came out with all guns blazing in the second half. The attacked their opponents in waves and it was no surprise when the pressure finally told and they grabbed an equalizer, despite the efforts of Robinson in the Dynamites goal.

The game ended 1-1 which meant the dreaded penalty kicks.

Both teams missed one of their first five kicks which sent the shootout into sudden death. The pressure told on the players with the next two kickers from both teams missing from eight yards.

Both teams scored their next kick before the Veterans keeper pulled off a save which was followed by the winning kick from his teammate.
