Early leaders Reno FC and Barbican FC were joined by upstarts Jamalco on eight points on Sunday as action continued in the Red Stripe Premier League playoffs. Reno and Barbican played out a 0-0 draw at Frome, while Jamalco left it late to see of Axum 1-0 at home to effectively end the hopes of the St. Mary based outfit.

The goals have dried up for Reno and Barbican as both teams have failed to score in their last two encounters. Reno would have hoped to seal their place in the RSPL yesterday with arguably the harder tie on the final day. Barbican will now fancy their chances of making it to the premier league for the first time in their history.

The young Jamalco outfit has continued to defy the odds and on Sunday gave themselves a glorious chance of getting into the premier league on their first attempt . Roshane Sharpe was the toast of the Wembley Excellence Centre when he struck the vital blow two minutes into stoppage time to help his team claim three crucial points to draw level with the “big boys”.

Jamalco can now complete the fairytale run at the expense of Reno, who at the halfway stage looked a shoe-in to make it back to top-flight football. Jamalco will host Reno on the final day looking to create a major upset.
