The Football Factory Grassroots 3v3 Tournament started yesterday with one hundred and twelve teams.  Competition got underway at 10:00 am on all six fields.  Some more teams were hoping to register after submitting their entries beyond the Friday deadline.

The large crowd that was on hand for the star of the two-day competition were treated to some fast pace football by aspiring ‘ballers’ from right across the island.  They were looking forward to the top prize money of four hundred thousand dollars for the winner.

The first match of the competition on filed one was between 0.5 Strikers and Fairview Strikers of Group A.  That ended on 4/3 to 0.5 Strikers.  The first goal was scored by Kemar Bryce of 0.5 Strikers.

The teams are placed in groups of four and will play three matches of ten minutes in length without breaks.  The teams will be reduced to sixty-four at the end of day one.  They will then play on a knockout basis during the second day.  The teams have registered a maximum of four players but only three can be on the field of play during matches.

Football Factory is the pioneer of small sided football in Jamaica being the only one of its kind in the country.  The fields are 20 yards by 15 yards.  The features include three state of the art, floodlit, artificial turf futsal fields for day and night play.  It is enclosed and has containment netting around the perimeter which prevents balls from going out of bounds.

The venue boasts a fully stocked canteen.  There are other features such as a clubhouse and reception area, big screen television for live games, an observation deck for spectators plus a misting fan for cool down purposes.

The winner will pocket $400,000 while second place will get $100,000 while there will be additional prizes for other players such as the highest goal scorer.

The sponsors for the tournament are Coca-Cola, KIG, Ford, NCB Capital Markets, NCB Insurance Company, Wata, Powerade, Adidas, Iprint Digital, Tara Couriers, TVJ, TVJSN and Hitz 92 FM.
