Reno or Barbican looking to seal the deal

The penultimate round of the Red Stripe Premier League play-offs will be played today and both Reno FC and Barbican FC will be looking to seal their promotion spots with a round to spare.

Both teams are currently locked on seven points each, while surprise team Jamalco clings to their coat-tails with five points and Axum FC complete the standings in the four team group with two points.

Reno will host Barbican looking to avenge their 2-1 away loss in the first round and gain promotion back to the premier league. This would increase the number of Western teams in the top flight of Jamaican football to two. On the other hand, Barbican has never played at the highest level and the club is desperate to make their first trip to the premier league, especially with the idea of franchising lurking around the corner.

There is not a lot separating the two teams from each other so the game could go either way this afternoon. Reno however, will be hoping that home advantage will help them over the line when the two teams face-off at Frome Sports Complex in Westmoreland.

Jamalco has popped up on the Jamaican football radar and have no intention of going away just yet, proving that by taking four points off Barbican, three at home and one away. The Clarendon based team will be looking for a win today against Axum and hope that the game between Reno and Barbican ends in a draw. This would leave all three teams on eight points heading into the final round of games.

It will not be a cake walk for the youthful Jamalco team at the Wembley Excellence Centre however, as Axum have proven they are able to hold their own as they did, when they held Reno to a 0-0 score-line on the last match day, despite the fact that Reno had been pumping in the goals during these playoffs.

There is a lot at stake for all the four teams currently engaged in the promotion race, and this should make for two very intriguing encounters for the fans today starting at 3:30pm.
