AS Roma has announced that former Lille manager Rudi Garcia has signed a new deal to extend his previous contract that had a duration of two years. The 50 year old French manager moved to the Stadio Olimpico last summer and led Roma back into the Champions League.

Garcia led Roma to a second place finish last season playing some exciting, free-flowing football while being defensively solid. His performance was so impressive that the club’s board did not hesitate to offer him a three year extension. Roma’s president James Pallotta made the announcement in an official statement on Friday.

He said, ‘I am pleased to announce that Rudi Garcia and Roma have agreed to a three-year extension beyond his original contract. As I have said many times in the past, after I spent the first 30 minutes with Rudi in New York City last year, I knew he would be the right choice to lead Roma for hopefully a long time.’

‘This extension is an integral part of our plan to bring continuity to our overall operational success. Roma ownership and management have been on the same page in regard to how to build a world-class football team. This is one more step in accomplishing our long-term vision.’

Garcia now has the task of holding onto the club’s stars as many have been linked to many of Europe’s elite clubs. The French manager made a name for himself when he led Lille to a domestic double in the French Ligue 1 back in 2011. He captured the Ligue 1 title as well as the Coupe de France.
