Man City stroll but Chelsea stunned in Capital One Cup

Manchester City continued their red hot form following on their 6-3 mauling of Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday when they eased past League One team Leicester City in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Manchester City continued their red hot form following on their 6-3 mauling of Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday when they eased past League One team Leicester City in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Chelsea who are third in the league were not so lucky as they were stunned by Premier League outfit Sunderland who came from behind to win 2-1 in extra time.

Manchester City who are fourth place in the league but just three points behind the leaders, were off to a flier when Aleksandar Kolarov hit a 30 yard screamer past Kasper Schmeichel in the Leicester goal.

Edin Dzeko made it 2-0 four minutes before the break when he headed home a James Milner cross to make their territorial advantage count.

Eight minutes into the second half, City killed off the game as a contest when Milner picked out Dzeko for the second time in the match to make the score 3-0 to the away team.

Lloyd Dyer got a consolation for the Foxes late on but by then it was too late for thoughts of a recovery against Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

In the other quarter final, Chelsea looked like they had done enough to secure the win after an own goal by Lee Catermole had put them ahead just after the half time break. Thoughts of a semifinal place for Chelsea were put in check when second half substitute Fabio Borini grabbed the equalizer two minutes before time.

Just as they had done to Manchester City in the league, the Black Cats stunned Jose Mourinho’s team when Ki Sung Yueng scored with two minutes left in extra time, to book a spot for his team in the semifinals.
