Cassanova shares the love a Hydel hammer OLA in Alberga Cup

A brace from Hydel’s Andrew-Lee Cassanova, inside the first ten minutes of the game between Hydel Prep and Our Lady of the Angels Prep, set the tone for a one-sided affair as the quarter final round of the JISA Alberga Cup got underway on Monday November 18th, 2013.

Cassanova got his first in the fifth minute when he benefited from a loose ball inside the box following a corner kick to Hydel. The midfielder blasted home from close range to give his team an early lead and returned five minutes later to double the score when he calmly put away a penalty kick after his teammate had been brought down in the area.

Dushan Bernard, the captain of the Hydel team and clearly the best player on show, made it 3-0 shortly before half time when his strike went in off the post to giving OLA keeper no chance.

Hydel continued where they left off after the break and increased their lead when Bernard was allowed to run unchallenged into the box before getting off a shot. The effort however did not go in but instead rebounded off the crossbar. Damoy Whitehorn was first to the rebounded and headed the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-0.

Bernard would get on the score sheet again when he was on the end of a beautifully flighted corner from Whitehorn, jumping above the defenders to head home, making it 5-0. This was the goal of the game.

Kaheem Francis would heap more misery on the OLA team when he pounced on a rebound from the opposing keeper. Whitehorn had gone on a mazy run, getting by three defenders before firing to goal, only to see his effort parried, but happy to see Francis tap home to make it 6-0 in the final minute of the game.

Manager of the Hydel Prep team, Corey Bennett was happy with the win despite the playing conditions.

“To win 6-0 is a good start to the second round. The playing surface is poor, especially for kids and hopefully we will get better fields to play on as the competition progresses.

“Some of the players are a little jaded after playing in the all day Samsung Tournament on Saturday. We made a few mistakes but it didn’t cost us so we are happy to get such a good start. It is a good opening to the quarters,” he said
