St. Peter & Paul clip Hillel as Alberga Cup quarters start

St. Peter & Paul Prep clipped Hillel Prep 1-0 as the quarter final round of the Alberga Cup began on Monday November 18th at the UWI Bowl.

In a dominant performance the Peter & Paul team controlled the first half without being able to find the back of the net, thanks largely in part to the efforts of Hillel goal keeper Duncan who did well to snuff out all that was thrown at him, both up close and from distance.

The second half started with Hillel trying to push back their opponents but that would last for only a few minutes as the boys clad in purple and white would soon take control again, dominating the midfield and pressuring the Hillel goal.

Duncan was called into to action repeatedly making save after save from free kicks and corners. His luck would run out however as in the 44th minute he was unable to hold onto a thunder bolt from Yanick Williams. As the ball cannoned off his chest, the diminutive Brad Strachan was quickest to react to blast home, giving St. Peter and Paul a 1-0 lead.

Despite the lead, the Claude Clarke coached team pushed for more goals and only the brilliance of Duncan kept the score line respectable for Hillel. Duncan’s heroics continued even after he suffered a leg injury and he was assisted off the field by a clearly proud dad, Keith Duncan of JMMB at the final whistle.

Speaking with Yardie Sports after the game Clarke was proud of his teams efforts saying, “I am proud of the way my boys played today. Hillel didn’t offer much threat offensively. We would have liked to score more goals, but we got one and three points, so I will take that.”

St. Peter & Paul will be sternly tested when they take on the defending knock-out champions, Hydel, in the Henriques Cup on Wednesday.
