Mona Prep held the more fancied Lannamans Prep to a scoreless draw as both teams began their quest for a spot in the semifinals of the JISA Alberga Cup on Monday November 18th, 2013.

The game which began in bright sunshine was a keen contest featuring fierce midfield battles as both teams searched for control of the game.

It was the Lannamans midfield that would settle first and apply the pressure on the Mona defence which stood resolute to the test. Duncan McKenzie of Mona did his best trying to counter the midfield pair of Kevin Johnson and Odane Zemenies for Lannamans, while Malik Drummond was the rock at the back for Mona.

The Mona defenders were able to repel all that Lannamans had to offer in the first half and would get more into the match in the second stanza.

A tactical switch by the Mona coach would prove to be the difference in the game. Matthew Bell who had been a mere spectator at centre forward in the first half, due to a lack of service was switched with McKenzie.

Bell’s presence in midfield allowed Mona to finally get their offence going as his robust play help to quell the effects of the skillful Lannamans midfielders.

The endeavors of Bell helped Mona to win a few free kicks late on in the match and with a bit more luck could have snatched it at the death.

A late afternoon downpour made the conditions underfoot quite slippery and this reduced the quality of the game to fall a little. When the referee signaled an end to the game, the 0-0 score line was a fair reflection of the balance of play.
