Martinez is keen to keep hold of his star assets in the final two weeks of the transfer market.

According to reports in the Daily Mirror, Everton received a £28m bid from the Red Devils for Fellaini and Baines just 48 hours before the first day of the start of the season. A bid of £16m was made for 25 year old Belgian and then United placed a £12m for the 28 year old left back.

The double bid was reported to be swiftly rejected by the Everton board as Martinez looks to keep hold of his star players. Manchester United has already failed in their efforts to lure Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara to Old Trafford so they have now turned their attentions to Toffees’ star duo.

Fellaini is said to be very keen to link up with David Moyes at Old Trafford as he looks to take the next step in his career. The Red Devils is also linked with a move for Real Madrid’s midfield general Luka Modric who is also said to be interested in a move to Old Trafford.

Moyes is very keen to add to the squad having failed to do so since he took over on July 1. The midfield is an area which Moyes admitted publicly that he wants to strengthen. It seems as though he is not satisfied with Patrice Evra at left back and so he wants to bring in Baines. Fabio Coentrao of Real Madrid has asked to leave the Santiago Bernabeau so he may also be an option for Moyes.
