Manchester United’s midfield general Michael Carrick has voiced his support for unsettled striker Wayne Rooney. The England striker is said to be leaning towards a

move to Chelsea but the Red Devils are determined to keep him at Old Trafford.

Manchester United started their title defense with a 4-1 victory at the Liberty Stadium against Swansea City where the England striker was given 30 minutes and provided two assists in his half hour. Rooney was pictured not celebrating Robin van Persie’s second goal with the rest of the team after he had received a warm welcome from the Old Trafford fans that made the journey to Wales.

However, Rooney received praise from Carrick after he came on and made an impact on the match. The striker showed the same desire on the pitch as always and was very intelligent in his play even though he wasn’t fully fit.

When asked if he was pleased to see his England teammate back on the pitch for Man United, Carrick gave Rooney his praises. He said: ‘Yes. I thought Rooney came on and looked good. He set up two goals and that’s what he’s all about.’

He continued: ‘He’s a real threat. He got a bit of whack when he made Danny’s second but I’m sure he’ll be alright. He’s a big Manchester United player. He’s one of us and we all stick together. When we’re on the pitch we fight for each other and do what we can for Wayne. He’s certainly part of that.’

The midfield maestro is clearly in support of their star striker and the rest of the Red Devils squad will surely let him feel like he is still one of them. The fans certainly want him to stay and so this may be the type of love and respect that will let Rooney stay at Old Trafford.
