competition.

In the game played at the Lyssons Pavilion between St. Thomas Strikers and UWI WFC the home team were on the end of another big loss to UWI as the visitors ran out easy 5-1 winners in another one sided affair.

Both teams had met only three days earlier in the Sherwin Williams Women’s Premier League at the UWI Mona Bowl and in that encounter UWI had won 9-1.

UWI picked up where they left off on Wednesday, as the wily Jodi-Ann Thomas tormented the St. Thomas defenders again, from the opening whistle. In the fifth minute of play, Thomas was brought down in the box and UWI awarded a penalty, which was neatly dispatched by Sherona Forrester.

The home team was not allowed to breathe as the UWI attack was unrelenting. Rochelle Bryan made it 2-0 just four minutes later when she nodded home from a corner.

Midway through the first half Stephanie Barrow made it 3-0 after the St. Thomas goal keeper collided with Forrester and was left flat on the ground. Barrow was first to the loose ball and calmly slotted home as two defenders tried to get back on the line.

Kerry Ann Sterling pulled one back for the home team ten minutes before the break when she fired home a beauty from 22 yards out, to give her team a glimmer of a hope.

The second half started out a more even contest as both team fought for control of the game. UWI gradually wrestled control and put it beyond doubt when Bryan pounced on an attempted clearance by the St. Thomas defense to expertly lob the flat-footed goal keeper for her second and the games fourth in the 76th minute.

Barrow got her brace on minute 80 when she hammered home to the far post from just inside the box to complete the game’s scoring.

At the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, home team Arnett Gardens suffered a heartbreaking loss to visitors Harbour View when Shavel Martin, a former Arnett Gardens player, got the winner in the 75th minute, of a fairly even and enthralling encounter.

At the Elleston Wakeland Centre, home team Trelawny Women’s FC prevailed 2-1 over a spirited Olympic Gardens FC. Trelawny led the contest 2-0 at the half through strikes from Shemeka Miller in the 10th minute and Kemuela Omfroy in the 39th minute.

Monique Wint pulled one back for the visitors in the 73rd minute to make it uneasy for the home team, who hung on to the end, to book their place in the next round.

The UWI, Harbour View and Trelawny now join defending champions Barbican FC, GC Foster College, Waterhouse FC, Frazsiers Whip and Los Perfectos, all of who got byes, in the draw for the quarter finals which takes place on Friday.
