Puerto Rico and Bermuda secured their places in the Finals of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s U-17 Tournament, set for later this year by taking the

two available spots in Group One, which was hosted by Puerto Rico at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium.

Puerto Rico defeated the Bahamas 3-1 and Bermuda 2-l, to top the table with six points, while Bermuda earned three points by defeating the Bahamas 4-2, to take second position in the point standings.

On Sunday August 11, during the last game played in the Group between Puerto Rico and Bermuda, it was the latter team which struck first in the 12th minute, when ace striker Aaliyah Nolan found the back of the net after penetrating the Puerto Rican defence line, ending the first half 1-0.

Puerto Rico, despite having to compete with ten players after losing Mariana Lopez Crespo in the 66th minute, when she was issued a red card for violent conduct, held their own, defending well and going forward when the occasion surfaced.

Their efforts paid off in the dying moments of the game, when substitute Fabiola Miranda equalized in the 84th minute and Marjorie Martinez sealed the issue in the 90th minute, to end the game 2-1.

Both teams will await the qualifying matches from Groups Two and Three, which are scheduled to begin on August 14 and 21, in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) and the Dominican Republic respectively. On August 14, St. Kitts/Nevis will encounter Trinidad & Tobago in the opening game of Group Two, with host USVI facing Antigua & Barbuda later the same day.
