Borussia Dortmund’s new Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Abaumeyang got off to a great start in the German Bundesliga with a hat-trick as Dortmund defeated

Augsburg 4-0 in their first match of the season. The 24 year old who was signed from French club St Etienne showed his pace, quality and composure in front of goal.

Abaumeyang took his goals well as he showed great pace and strength to fight off his marker to head home the opener from a Marcel Schmeltzer cross. It was a well taken header as he placed his header to the goalkeeper’s left despite under pressure from his marker.

He took his second goal expertly by pushing the ball across his opponent before slotting the ball around the keeper to the bottom corner. He was assisted by Marco Reus who ran the show for Dortmund in the attacking third. Abaumeyang then showed his blistering pace to latch onto a pass from Robert Lewandowski, then he rounded the goalkeeper before calmly passing the ball in the net.

It will surely be pleasing for manager Jurgen Klopp as his new recruit seems to have settled in very well with his teammates. Abaumeyang has so far shown a good understanding with the way Dortmund plays and he has settled well with his new teammates. This may be a good sign for the beaten champions league finalist as he can help take the scoring burden off the shoulders of Lewandowski.

Dortmund was without their Armenian super star Henrikh Mkhitaryan who is out with an ankle injury. He is also a player who scores lots of goals and he has been handed the number 10 shirt that was worn by Mario Gotze who moved to Bayern Munich at the end of last season. Klopp will be hoping that Mkhitaryan will get in among the goals when he is fit again so that they can push Bayern all the way as they try to reclaim the Bundesliga title.
