KINGSTON, Jamaica, Five Manning Cup teams and three DaCosta Cup teams have advanced to the quarter final round of the ISSA/FLOW Super Cup Tournament which kicked off last Saturday (October 24).
During opening round games at the National Stadium, St. Jago High excused Lacovia with a 3-1 victory while in the second game of the double-header, defending champions Jamaica College went 2-0 up on Vere technical and held on for a 2-1 win.
At Sabina Park, defending DaCosta Cup champions Clarendon College who were knocked out in the first round last year, came from behind to beat Hydel high 2-1. Wolmer’s Boys then outplayed Port Antonio to register a 3-1 win before watching St Georges College put on a masterclass act as the ‘Light Blues’ scored five unanswered goals for the biggest victory of the day.
Kingston College came out of the blocks on fire in the first match against Glenmuir at Catherine Hall Stadium and led 2-0 in the first 15 minutes. Former Manning Cup champions Glenmuir were undaunted. They exhibited guts and determination to claw back lost ground, eventually winning 3-2.
In the second game, Charlie Smith went ahead in the early minutes against St Elizabeth Technical high school. Like the first game, the DaCosta Cup team struck back forcefully to score four goals, winning 4-1.
St James High took the lead against Excelsior but the Mountain View team drew level near the end to force extra-time and penalties. After a dramatic shootout, Excelsior won 6-5.
In the quarterfinals next Saturday, St. George’s will meet Glenmuir and Clarendon College will play Wolmer’s Boys at Sabina Park at 4pm and 6pmrespectively at Sabina Park. At the National Stadium, Jamaica College face Excelsior High at 4pm while STETHS will play St Jago High at 6pm.
