The likelihood of a restart of football on the island got closer to becoming a reality after a meeting between the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the sport’s governing body, Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) on Tuesday.
The long-awaited meeting between the two parties was held to clarify the position of the Ministry with regards to the protocols submitted by the JFF and after hours of deliberations, further recommendations were given as well as a promise from the ministry of a prompt response which could come as early as next week.
Below is a press release from the JFF on the progress of the meeting yesterday as it relates to the Senior Reggae Boyz, National Premier League and the Scotiabank Concacaf League.
The Jamaica Football Federation together with representatives from the Jamaica Premier League clubs, and Concacaf held a fruitful meeting with the Minister of Health and Wellness and the medical and technical team from the Ministry on Tuesday.
Below is an update of the deliberations:
1 – A proposed training Camp for Senior Reggae Boyz. This would be held at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Center of Excellence. This camp would be in preparation for the two International Friendly games to be played in Saudi Arabia on November 14 and 17. The Ministry officials clarified a few points and indicated that the JFF should receive a formal response to its submission by Wednesday, October 21st.
2 – Regarding the start of the National Premier League, the Minister outlined the concerns regarding the present state of the virus and the community spread. Importantly, the Minister indicated how high sports was valued and committed to have the Ministry’s medical and technical personnel review revised Protocols urgently, with a view to giving a response next week. The revised protocols were submitted by the JFF on Tuesday evening.
3 – The meeting also discussed the playing of the Scotiabank Concacaf League game involving Waterhouse FC and a club team from Belize or Haiti on November 5 at the Stadium East Facility. Updates were provided and all necessary and relevant protocols were submitted on Tuesday for the Ministry’s review and response.
President Michael Ricketts then met with the clubs in a virtual space and outlined the results of the deliberations.
