Bayern Munich booked a spot in their 11th Champions League final when they saw off a brave but wasteful Lyon 3-0 on Wednesday thanks to a first half brace from Serge Gnabry and a late goal from the reliable Robert Lewandowski

Lyon started the brighter of the two teams when Caqueret recovered the ball in midfield and played it quickly into Memphis Depay, who still had a lot of work to do to when he received the call.

Depay managed to leave Jerome Boateng and Alaba in his wake and rounded Manuel Neuer before getting an off-balance shot off, that went into the side netting.

Goretzka had a give and go with Lewandowski but failed to make real contact with the return pass as the ball trickled across the face of the goal.

Depay then fizzed a shot across the face of goal that went just wide of the far post as Lyon were asking all of the questions early on.

Again Lyon pressed and Boateng had to produce a vital near post interception from a Cornet cross who had Ekambi in the middle to aim for.

In the 17th min Ekambe battled to get off a shot that hit the base of the post from 7 yards as the winger was left holding his head.

A minute later, Lyon were punished.  Gnabry cuts in from the right wing and fired off a shot from the edge of the box, a thunderbolt with his left foot, that ended up in the roof of the net for 1-0 to Bayern.

A training ground free kick from Alaba fed in Muller who failed to make contact from 8 yards to spare Lyon’s blushes.

Gnabry got his second in the 33rd minute when scored on the rebound after Lewandowski somehow miskicked from a cross from Perisic from the left, from 3 yards. The ball rebounded off Lopes and fell to the feet of Gnabry who made no mistake from 5 yards.

Gnabry whipped in a left footed cross from the right side of the box that went just over the leg of Lewandowski who was just three yards out shortly before half time.

Lyon were by then, mere spectators in a game they virtually controlled for the first 17 minutes of the match.

Perisic had a chance to kill off the game in the 51st minute when played in clean on goal, but he shot straight at Lopes.

Marcelo had a header from a free kick that went straight down the middle providing easy catch for Neuer.

Ekambe, who was having a nightmare in front of goal went clean through on goal in the 58th minute, but shot straight at Neuer from 8 yards as Lyon missed another chance to get back in the game.

After that the match drifted away from Lyon as Bayern eased towards victory.

With the game already good as won, Lewandowski scored his 55th goal of the season. The Pole powered home a header at the far post, from a Kimmich free kick which was taken from almost on the touchline, as he continued his incredible goal scoring record in the Champions League this season.

Lewandowski has scored in every Bayern Munich Champions League match so far this season.

It was the 42nd goal in the competition this season for a rampant Bayern Munich team that hit Barcelona for 8 in the quarterfinal.

Bayern Munich will now face Paris St. Germain in the final on Sunday.
