RSPL serves up plenty of treats this weekend

Cavalier SC Assistant coach David Lalor insists that his youung team can get the job done at Harbour View on Monday Night despite missing captain Chevone Marsh and the skilful Alex Marshall who are away on internationl duty with the Reggae Boyz.

 

 

 

Ten days after playing out a 0-0 draw at the Barbican football field Boys Town FC and Montego Bay United will face each again at the same venue. Boys Town won the first meeting of the season between these two teams in the first round and have taken four points off the former champions so far this season. 

 
Stuck at the bottom of the table on a mere 14 points the Red Brigade will be desperate to claim their second win against the team from the west as they bid to avoid the drop. Each game for the rest of the season will be a cup final for the Andrew Price coached team but they can expect no favours from the underperforming Mobay team.
 
Jermaine “Tuffy” Anderson has been added to the Boys Town roster during the transfer window and Price is hoping that the experience that the robust attacker brings will help his team remain in the league.
 
“He has been very inspirational, he comes with a good work ethic, he encourages the younger players and he is one of the people who are encouraging the team. He has been a good addition and with his wealth of experience we hope for the run-in, that he will help us.
 
“There are ten games left, there is a possible 30 points out there so we are going to go out there and give it the best shot that we can.”
 
Mobay sit in an unfamiliar 10th place, just one spot above the relegation zone and will be looking for a win to move away from danger and closer to a playoff position. Tim Hankinson has returned and is expected to breathe new life into the stuttering Mobay United.
 
Lincoln Whyte, Director of Communications at MBU says that the team has failed in two main departments so fa this season and that is their usual defensive solidity and their prowess in front of goal. He did promise a turnaround in both areas in this the third round. 
 
“Boys Town has always been a fighting team…whenever we face Boys Town we know that we have to be at our best regardless of where they are on the table. We have contributed four points so far to Boys Town this season and that’s enough.Now it’s work time.It’s time to get rolling into the top six,” he demanded.
 
Sandals South Coast FC were put to the sword by defending champions Arnett Gardens last Sunday and will be eager to forget the 5-0 thrashing ahead of their next assignment against league leaders Portmore United. Having felt the full force of the league’s leading scorer Fabian Reid, Aaron Lawrence will be happy that his defence will not have to cope with second leading scorer Javon East, who is away on national duty.
 
But while East is unavailable, Portmore is equipped with enough talent to find the goals to win at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. Portmore were stunned 3-0 by a young Cavalier outfit last Sunday and will be looking to return to winning ways against the second from bottom team.
 
Waterhouse FC have not lost in eight games and proved on Thursday that they have grown a lot under coach Donovan Duckie. They played their first game without the former army man on the sideline and were able to hold Montego Bay United to a 2-2 draw in a rescheduled game on Thursday. A brace from their leading scorer Kemar Beckford ensured they left the west with a point. 
 
Waterhouse will play their second game without their head coach who is way with the Reggae Boyz and will travel west once more, this time to take on the improving FC Reno. The Vassell Reynolds coached team will be bubbling with confidence after scoring a come from behind 2-1 win over Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex last Sunday and are sure to make it difficult for the team from Drewsland.
 
Following back to back losses the UWI have only just managed to maintain a spot in the top six in the league. They host an inconsistent Humble Lion team that left the UWI Mona Bowl with a point the last time the two teams met there. 
 
Their leading scorer Ryan Miller returns from suspension after picking up a red card in the 2-1 loss to Arnett  Gardens. He has not found the back of the net since last year and will feel that he owes his team after picking up a silly second yellow card early in the second half with his team 1-0 up.
 
Craig Foster got his first goal for his new club Humble Lion to earn a point against Boys Town at Effortville and will be looking to maintain his chances of winning the Golden Boot by finding the back of the net with more consistency. The Bowl has not been the usual fortress for UWI and should Foster be given room to play, he may just tip the scales in favour of the visitors this time around. Patrick Brown has been a big player for UWI this term and the return to form of Andrea Bernal has been timely for the Marcel Gayle couched outfit.
 
The Monday Night fixture sees the improving Harbour View playing hosts to the league’s form team Cavalier SC. Harbour View were almost in danger of getting caught up in a relegation scrap but three wins in their last four games has seen them move up into 8th place on 37 points and just two points away from a playoff position.  
 
Led by the precocious talents of Chevone Messi Marsh and Alex Marshall Cavalier has surged from mid-table up to third place in the standings. The league will find out just how good a team they are at he moment however as both players are overseas on national duty. Assistant coach David Lalor insists they have able replacements in the likes of schoolboy and hold no fear of Harbour View.
 
Harbour View head coach Ricardo Gardner says his team is ready to kickon following their last two results.
 
“The preparation this week has been good. Coming from the last two games we got two positive results and I think the team is really playing well now. We just have to be on our “A” game coming on Monday. 
 
“We are not far off (the playoff positions) and we just have to continue on the path we are on and I think it is a great game coming on Monday for us to do so.
 
David Lalor waxed poetically about the talent his young players possess.
 
“We have quite a few young players that have already established themselves as good footballers and so it was about us getting them to gel together and it has been working. The team is doing well based on the pool of talent that we have put together. These players are so confident it is unbelievable and they are young players,17 years old, 18 years old, they are really enthused. 
 
“Cavalier is coming to play some football and show what young talent can do,” he promised.
 

 17 year old Kaheem Parris has scored three goals in three games for Cavalier and Lalor promised that he will be in the starting lineup come 8:30pm Monday. All the games on Sunday begin at 3pm.

 
The West Kingston Derby between Arnett Gardens and Tivoli Gardens has been postponed due to the involvement of Arnett Gardens in the Caribbean Club Championships.
