Glendon “Admiral” Bailey fully understands the mammoth task at hand as he tries to turn around the fortunes of struggling Waterhouse FC. The former champions have been mired in the relegation zone for much of the season, which led to Bailey taking over from Marvin Tate after thirteen games into the current Red Stripe Premier League campaign.
Four games into his tenure, the team seems rejuvenated and refocused, and Bailey has assured that he will be getting things done the correct way, in order to right the ship.
“Before we can think about catching people, we have to have the fundamentals right,” Bailey stated.
Back to back losses in his first two games in charge was perhaps not what the former Tivoli Gardens FC winning coach would have wanted, but a draw away to Portmore United put an end to the rot. A home win against Jamalco FC to close out the year has breathed new life into the team as Bailey attempts to put his stamp on his new club.
“Coming into a team and you are bringing your philosophy and your characteristics to the team, it is not going to happen overnight,” he reasoned.
“I like a fighting team, once we fight and keep positive the results will come,” Bailey assured.
Bailey was brought in on a rescue mission and is sure that he is on the right track to getting it done.
“They are starting to believe in me, they are starting to listen, they are starting to understand most importantly, my system of play and what I demand of them.”
The philosophical coach knows that one win isn’t enough to believe that their troubles are over and is demanding patience all around.
“We will take it one step at a time…the objective is to build…it is a work in progress and we are working hard. We are not concentrating on the points standings…we are concentrating on who we can catch.
“We are taking it one step at a time,” he reiterated “We want to catch this one, then catch the next one, so we are not looking to make a big leap, just one step at a time.”
Currently on 15 points in 11th place, Waterhouse sits only three points above rock bottom Boys Town.
Tenth placed Harbour View are only two points above the Drewsland based team on 17, while ninth placed Reno are only a point better off with 18. The other two teams in the bottom half of the table, seventh placed Marverley/Hughenden and eighth placed Jamalco FC are both locked on 20 points.
