Huge favourites Kingston College made light work of rivals Calabar High school, defeating them 3-0 inside the National Stadium to make it back to back title wins in the ISSA/Trujuice Under-16 Urban Area schoolboy football competition.

First half goals from Dwayne Atkinson and Jamari Morrison gave KC a comfortable lead before substitute Davion Williams put the game beyond doubt in the second half.

KC got off to a fast start when the dangerous Atkinson got in front of his marker to finish off a cross from Michael Allen from the left side in the 8th minute of play.

The Purples dominated play, with the Lions barely able to make it out of their half and were 2-0 in front just six minutes later when Morrison fired home with his weaker right foot from eight yards out.

Captain Giovani Thomas and Romario McLean were working overtime to contain the KC attackers as their midfielders Kevon Kidd and Jevon Te Hoquee could do little to protect them.

With the game coming too easy for them, KC backed off the pace and allowed their opponents back into the contest.

Calabar took advantage of the new found space in midfield and tried their best to get a goal back but could find now way passed the reliable Shanthamoi Brown in the KC goal.

KC returned a more focused group in the second half and took control of the game once more. They were guilty of missing a few easy chances before Williams took the first chance presented to him. Arriving at the back post, the winger finished off another Allen cross with a fierce drive that flew passed Mahkaya Anderson in the Calabar goal midway the seond stanza.

For coach Raymond Watson it was a sweet win – “It’s always good to win any competition, but it’s even sweeter to beat people who have been sending you threats in the final. There is bridge between reaching the final and winning it, we didn’t need to cross over because we built the bridge,” he said emphatically

When asked about going unbeaten for three seasons while claiming two titles Watson said, “It’s been an amazing journey and I must say thank you to wider KC fraternity for all the help and for believing in me. I must say special thanks to Derrick Banks and Dave Myrie, the parents and the players for making it possible.”

“Every year I keep finding ways of outdoing myself-challenging myself and the players that I have to be better than those before them..it’s a difficult task but I love to win so that motivates me..I honestly don’t think about the records I just want to win,” Watson emphasised.

Watson also coaches the Under 14 team that will play in the semi-finals of that competition on Tuesday. They are three times back to back champions and are vying for title number four. They will face Jamaica College at 2:30pm at Constant Spring.
