Donovan Dawkins of Jamaica College goes by Philip Graves of Holy Trinity High during their Manning Cup semi-final inside the National Stadium on Saturday. Defending champions Jamaica College won the game 5-0 to advance to the final where they will play Wolmers’ Boys.
Jamaica College and Wolmers Boys’ will face off in the finals of the ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup competition on Saturday November 26th after both teams registered comfortable semi-final wins over Holy Trinity and Kingston College respectively last Saturday.
In the first semi-final Jamaica College swept by a toothless Holy Trinity 5-0, with goals coming from five different scorers, while Wolmers caught Kinston College cold with a third minute goal from which the Purples never recovered and the Super Cup champions eased into their second final of the season.
Ronaldo Brown spurned a few easy chances before JC went ahead from the penalty spot after the Holy Trinity goalkeeper Kevon Ricketts brought down the striker just inside the area. The JC captain Oquin Robinson then confidently stroked home to give the defending champions the lead in the 39th minute. JC went 2-0 up on the stroke of half time when Howell fired home after a brilliant give and go with Duhaney Williams inside the box.
Willis got the first goal of the second half in the 63rd minute when he rifled home from the edge of the box and ended any slim hopes of a Holy Trinity comeback.
JC continued to dominate a nervous Holy Trinity team and it was no surprise when Duhaney Williams got on the score sheet. The forward made it 4-0 when he slipped passes two defenders with ease before stroking home a very good goal.
The goal of the afternoon was scored by the classy Tyreke Magee who ghosted passed three defenders as if they were standing still before effortlessly passing the ball into the far corner of the net to round out the scoring.
The encounter between Wolmers and KC was expected to be another close one as the two teams met for the third time this season. But the Boys from Heroes Circle put on a very efficient display, punctuated by some clinical finishing, to ease passed their opponents.
Alphanso Gooden got the maroon and gold clad boys going after just three minutes when he headed home directly from a corner kick.
KC forced their way back into the contest, dominating possession and pushing Wolmers back but were kept at bay by solid defending and brilliant goalkeeping, along with a little luck. Shamar Jemison pulled of a stunning one handed save, diving to his right to deny Shamar Bloomfield after the KC had fought his way passes Tafari Anderson down the left side.
Rashwan Mackison tricked his way passed Anderson inside the box but his shot was blocked by Jemison who then brilliantly tipped over the follow-up shot from Andre McCatty.
KC were left ruing their luck at half time as a free kick from McCatty came crashing back off the crossbar in the 2nd minute of added on time.
The game was a more even contest in the second half and it was as good as over when Andrew Daley made it 2-0 in the 67th minute. The midfielder side footed home the ball after being played in by Mickel Graham just inside the area.
Five minutes from time Graham put the icing on the cake when he slotted home after being allowed to run with the ball for about 10 yards.
Wolmers will now look to end the three year reign of Jamaica College as Manning Cup champions and grab their second piece of silverware of the season, but that will be a very tough task against a well-oiled Miguel Coley machine.
