The highly anticipated ISSA/FLOW Super Cup gets underway on Friday with four games across two venues and schoolboy football fans will be in for a treat wherever they go. With the competition guaranteed a new champion since defending champions St. Georges College failed to qualify this season, it is anyone’s guess as to who will lift the new trophy.

The two venues to be used for the ‘Kick-Off Weekend’, which is a new feature of this year’s  competition, are Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, St. James and Sabina Park in Kingston with the first game starting at 5:00pm and the second encounter at 7:00pm.

At Catherine Hall, the first game will feature one of the DaCosta Cup favourites Dinthill Technical and they will take on Walker Cup losing semi-finalists Bridgeport High. Both teams are playing in the three year old competition for the first time and will believe that they have what it takes to move on to the quarter final round. Dinthill has been doing very well in the DaCosta Cup but Bridgeport are no pushovers and will also fancy their chances of advancing beyond the first round.

In the second game at the venue, the high riding Cornwall College will take on Denham Town High who are also newcomers to this competition. While Cornwall College has won all their games so far this season and will be brimming with confidence, Denham Town looked far from their best in their Walker Cup quarter finals and will have to come up with something special to advance.

At Sabina Park, last year’s beaten quarter-finalists Excelsior High will take on another first timer to this competition in Ocho Rios High in the first game. Both teams will fancy this draw and will see it as an opportunity to have dodged a bullet against one of the more fancied teams. Excelsior knows what it takes to prevail in this knock out competition and will be hoping that the experience gained last year will help them this season.

Wolmers’ Boys will face another unknown quantity in Little London in the feature encounter. Wolmers’ lost out in the semi-final stages two years running and will be hoping for another deep run in this competition. Little London have never been here before, but with no pressure on them could just spring a surprise in a competition that has thrown up quite a few surprises in its short history. Vassel Reynolds will have to be careful to guard against complacency against the team from the ‘Garden parish’.

All games must have a result, so extra time and penalty kicks will be used, if necessary, to ensure a winner of each game.
