A brace from Bygrave helped lead his team to a 3-0 win over former champions Darkside on the opening day of the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Six-a-side football competition at the Foska Oval in the community of Waterhouse on Saturday.

A brace from the captain Kemar ‘Dutchie’ Bygrave and an own goal from a Darkside defender, saw the defending champions Eurotrend off to a brilliant start in fourth staging of the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Six-a-side football competition at the Foska Oval in the community of Waterhouse on Saturday.

The day was marked by an opening ceremony and dress parade with two official games plus another match dubbed Rasta vs Bald Head being played.

In the opening encounter, Eurotrend controlled the game from start to finish, dominating 2014 champions Darkside with some slick passing and off the ball movement. The first goal came in the first half when a defender rammed the ball home past his own keeper, when under pressure from Bygrave.

Bygrave got his first goal of the game in the second half, when he produced a brilliant change of pace to get by a defender before blasting past the keeper to make it 2-0. The big striker then made it 3-0 when he converted from the penalty spot, shortly before the final whistle.

“It feels wonderful to get two goals today,” Bygrave told Yardie Sports. “To score two goals against a really competitive team like Darkside who were the champions before us is a special feeling.”

If the opening day is anything to go by, the other team will have a hard time trying to wrestle the trophy from the defending champions, Eurotrend.

In the day’s second game, Future Strikers and Ashoka Road Strikers played out an exciting 0-0 draw.

End to end action saw both teams create a number of goal scoring opportunities without being able to find the back of the net. The best chance of the game fell to Ashoka Road Strikers, but they missed a penalty late in the game, that would surely have won them the match.

The third and final game of the day saw Ian ‘Pepe’ Goodison and musicians such as Jesse Royal and Keznamdi play against a select team to bring down the curtain on day one of the competition.
