The fairytale debut season in the Red Stripe Premier League continued for the University of the West Indies FC on Sunday when they scored a narrow 1-0 win over Cavalier SC at the UWI Bowl to maintain their current fourth place in the 12 team league.

A thunderous free kick from the right boot of central defender Nicholas Mc Morris in the 53nd minute rocketed into the back of the net and was enough to secure the win for the UWI. They move on to 45 points and remain in the coveted fourth and final semi-final spot, with just two sets of matches remaining in the regular season.

Meanwhile, fifth place Humble Lion FC just managed to remaining in contention for the fourth spot thanks to a stoppage time 1-0 win over Boys Town at the Barbican Field. Gregory Lewis got the winner in minute 90+2 to keep the dream of his team alive while ending those of their opponents Boys Town, who had a mathematical chance of making the top four at the start of the day’s play.

The luckless Harbour View FC slipped away from qualification contention when they were held 1-1 at home by struggling FC Reno. Harbour View needed a win to maintain their outside chance of making the top four and were well on their way when Ranique Muir bravely headed them in front in the 17th minute. But a 79th minute strike from Renario Downswell was enough for the visitors to grab a share of the spoils and keep themselves out of the relegation zone.

Tivoli Gardens ensured that they would be playing in the Premier League next season when they clipped relegation threatened Rivoli United at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. Kemar Seivwright became the latest hero for the West Kingston based club when he got the lone goal in the 72nd minute. Tivoli Gardens now has 37 points, seven more than 11th place Rivoli United with just two matches remaining.

Last placed Waterhouse FC lost 1-0 away to league leaders Portmore United who need just four more points from their remaining two games, to crown themselves regular season champions and cap an amazing return to the premier league after being relegated two seasons ago. On the other hand, the Drewsland based team seems destined to suffer the same fate as Portmore did two years ago, as they remain rooted to the bottom of the standings and are five points from safety.

The penultimate set of matches will be played on Thursday as the fight for survival hits fever pitch.
