Defending ISSA/WATA Urban Under-16 Champions Bridgeport High school earned the right to defend their title against Kingston College with a come from behind 3-1 win over Norman Manley High school in the semi-finals on Friday, while Camperdown High school will face the same opponents in the Under-14 version of the competition after they dispatched Jamaica College 2-0. Both games were played at St. George’s College on Friday.

Bridgeport High dominated a first half that produced no goals but came close on a number of occasions as they took the game to Norman Manley. The Maxfield Park based school was left counting their lucky stars at the end of a first half where they could easily have been trailing by two or three goals.

As it often goes in football, Norman Manley took the lead six minutes after the restart when captain Shane Mason scored directly from a free kick to give his team a surprise lead. The defending champions left it late to claw their way back into the game and equalized six minutes from time, when Nicoy Allen finished with aplomb to send the game into extra time.

Bridgeport then scored in either half of extra time through Geovanni Robinson and Andre Pearson to set up a date with KC in the final.

In the first game at the venue, Camperdown got the better of last season’s beaten finalists when they took their chances in a game of two halves. Camperdown dominated the first half and took the lead when Wayne Henry refused to give up on a long ball floating into the area from a free kick. The JC defence stood flatfooted and watched Henry follow the flight of the ball and side-footed into an unprotected net from almost on the touchline, ten minutes before the break.

On the resumption JC virtually camped out in the Camperdown half but failed to make use of their chances, only to be caught by a sucker punch in the last minute of stoppage time.

Camperdown earned a corner kick following a counter attack and Shavaun Barnes squeezed home a rebound from close range to send his team into the final where they will meet defending champions Kingston College.

The finals will be played on Monday at the Constant Spring Field beginning with the U-14 final starting at 1:45pm.
