St. Georges College ran out easy 5-0 winners over Godfrey Stewart High on Sunday to retain the Georges Cup at their home ground, Winchester Park. Having won both of their matches STGC came away winners after Camperdown failed to win against Paul Bogle High.

Heading into the game knowing any win would help them secure the title, a much changed team from the one that played against Paul Bogle High on Saturday never needed to get out of second gear as STGC claimed a straight forward win. With captain Shevon Stewart playing in behind the strikers and Alex Marshall creating havoc on the flanks, STGC did their customary stroll around the park, showing great touches in this preseason encounter.

Credit must however be given to Godfrey Stewart who put in a much better second day performance as they showed better organization and more grit and determination after being hammered 11-0 by Camperdown the day before.

In the day’s other game, Camperdown needed a stoppage time equalizer to secure a point against 10-man Paul Bogle. After taking the lead in just the third minute, Camperdown seemed n course to lift the winners’ trophy but were pegged back ten minutes later. The Christopher Bender coached team took the lead for a second time with just over 30 minutes played before Paul Bogle went down to ten men shortly before the interval.

To their credit the DaCosta Cup team never let their heads drop and roared back into the game in the second half. Paul Bogle drew level, before doing the unexpected by taking the lead late in the game. They were unable to hold on for what would have been a deserved lead when the East Kingston school nicked an equalizer with the last meaningful kick of the game.
