Waterhouse football club apologized for their non-participation in the first round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Competition that was played between April 15-19 in Trinidad. The Club which reached the semi-final stages last year were looking to make another big run in the competition this year.

Below is the full text of the apology:

The Waterhouse Football Club regrets not participating in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Competition that was scheduled for April 15-19, 2015 in Trinidad. For this, the Executive apologizes unreservedly to our players, supporters, the Waterhouse community and the wider football fraternity.

As the defending champions, our players took pride in their past achievements and looked forward to their title defense with excitement and optimism. However, several circumstances prevented their participation in the tournament. Competitions of this nature require significant funding for which, on this occasion, the Club looked outside its regular sponsors for support. However, commitments that were made materialized very close to the tournament date, by which time the Club had difficulties securing sufficient seats for the squad and technical team due to flights being full with persons returning home from Sunday’s staging of Carnival. We were then faced with having the team travelling through Fort Lauderdale, however, several members do not hold a US visa. Extraordinary efforts were then made to arrange a charter flight but only 19 persons could travel on the charter, which would not arrive in Trinidad until 8:00pm on Wednesday, with the first match being scheduled for 4:30pm.

We communicated with the Director of the competition and informed of our misfortunes in not making it to Trinidad on time for the first scheduled match. We regret not being able to defend our title and, more so, the level of embarrassment on the players, management, executive, the community and all our supporters due to our circumstances. We know that the, wounds are still fresh but we are committed to the healing process and the team is committed to moving forward and putting in place policies to prevent such future occurrences.

We now direct our focus on the remainder the premier league season with high hopes of securing a position in the CFU competition for next year, and a long term vision of moving on to CONCACAF Champions League. This is the biggest showcase we can have and ensure sustainability for our club.

The Chairman and the President have expressed their long term commitment to the club and intend to bounce back bigger and better.

As we resume our challenge for the premier league title this Sunday, we invite you to join us when we go up against arch rival Boys Town at our home ground at the Waterhouse Stadium.
