A football treat is in store for fans of the Red Stripe Premier League today when league leaders Arnett Gardens host third place and defending champions Montego Bay United at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex at 6:00pm.

Arnett leads the standings on 51 points, eight more than their opponents and are almost assured of a spot in the semi-finals, with eight sets of matches left to be played. Despite a blip towards the end of round two, Arnett has remained the most consistent team in the league which has seen them build up a nice cushion at the top of the pile.

The Jerome Waite coached team has not been dependent on any one or two players but has had contributions from just about all the members of the squad and this has been the main reason for their success so far.

Mobay United has not been as consistent as they would like, but have managed to remain in the top four all season and will be looking to chalk up their third win in four games and close the gap on the leaders.

Games between these two teams are always special and it was Mobay that brought Arnett’s record setting win streak to a halt at the same venue in January. The 0-0 draw was the first time Arnett had dropped points since they had been thrashed by Mobay 5-0 at Wespow Park.

The ‘Junglists’ will be looking to score their first win over the champions this season, ahead of the semi-finals, which would see the two teams square of, if the season were to end today.

Mobay for their part will be looking to score major psychological points over Arnett and ensure they remain on course to defend their title.

Mobay was quite content to play behind the ball and nullify the attacking threat posed by the Arnett wide players in the last game between the two, before taking the game to their opponents and creating enough chances to steal all three points.

Today’s encounter should be another fascinating contest with the skills of managers Waite and Carlos Garcia being pushed to the limit as they try to outwit each other.
