Warning: Beware of Boys Town at Collie Smith Drive

Red Stripe Premier League,Boys Town,Shamar Nicholson,Humble Lion

Collie Smith Drive has become a burial ground for most teams in the Red Stripe Premier League. Humble Lion, the team with the best record coming into the third and final round of the group stages found that out the hard way on Ash Wednesday when they were beaten 1-0 courtesy of a header from teenage sensation Shamar Nicholson.

The Donovan Duckie coached team went to the home of the former league champions with their 11 game unbeaten streak on the line, but left with that record in tatters as Nicholson, who came on as a second half substitute, out-jumped his marker and produced a looping header over the head of Damion Crooks in the 84th minute.

Nicholson was happy to have gotten the game winner for his team and thanked his coach for showing faith in him.

“It feels good to get the winning goal today. I have a toe injury, that is why I didn’t start today, but coach had the faith to put me in and I was able to get the crucial goal,” he said.

The goal, which came 12 minutes after the National Under-20 player entered the fray, was against the run of play but proved to be enough to help the Andrew Price coached team move further away from the relegation zone as the premier league season enters its final lap.

It was the player’s second goal against Humble Lion this season and his ninth for the club in all competitions.

“It is only my second goal at home this season but this win can lead to something special for us. If we can get a win in our next game that will build a lot of confidence in the team and we can keep climbing the table and get to safety.”

Boys Town will play away to fellow strugglers Reno in their next game on Sunday and will need to break their away hoodoo if they are to come away with three points.
