Waterhouse striker Juvaune Benjamin is happy to get the proverbial monkey off his back. The 23 year old who had endured a miserable time in front of goal recently, going seven games without scoring, hit a brace for his club on Thursday as they came from behind to defeat Cavalier SC 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the KSAFA/Jackie Bell KO Competition.

Speaking with Yardie Sports after the game Benjamin said, “It is a tremendous feeling to get those two goals. I have to thank my teammates and my coaches for keeping me motivated. They always believed in me and always supported me, no matter what.”

The first was a simple tap-in while the second was a rasping drive that took a deflection before flying into the roof of the net. The manner of his celebrations showed just how much it meant to the player to be back amongst the goals once again.

“I hope this will be the start of something new and that it will carry over into the New Year. I want to be scoring a lot of goals for the club. We are very ambitious and want to win as many competitions as possible. My role in that is scoring goals, so it is important that I keep going,” he said.

The former Excelsior High Manning Cup star will be looking to get among the goals again on Sunday when Waterhouse travel to Harbour View in a Red Stripe Premier League blockbuster.
