Boys Town FC blew a chance to escape the relegation zone when Peter Keyes saw his late penalty saved by former National goalkeeper Jacomeno Barrett with less than ten minutes left to play in their Red Stripe Premier League encounter on Sunday at Collie Smith Drive.

Starting the day at the foot of the table, Boys Town needed a win to leapfrog Humble Lion and the inactive Barbican FC, but went behind early to the champions when Lesly St. Fleur scored from the penalty spot after only 9 minutes.
The visitors failed to build on their lead and the home team fought their way back into the game but clearly missed the presence of teenage sensation Shamar Nicholson up front. The striker has been called up to the National Under 20 squad.

Veteran Rafiek Thomas made his presence felt in the 30th minute when he slotted past Barrett after being played in by Marvin Stewart through the left channel, to make it 1-1.

Three minutes later Mobay United should have retaken the lead when Dino Williams was left unmarked in the box, but the tall striker was unable to direct his header on target from an Allan Ottey corner kick.

Shortly before the break Chavaney Willis found himself alone, at the top of the box but his wild effort went high and wide.

Seven minutes after the restart Thomas had the chance to give his team the lead when he was picked out with the perfect cross by Xavian Virgo inside the box but he was unable to steer his shot on goal.

Mobay United responded through Ottey who was fed in the left channel by Dwayne Ambusley but Kirk Porter denied the striker, diving to his right to save. Williams was then denied twice in a matter of minutes as the visitors pushed for a go ahead goal.

With time ticking away, the Red Brigade was awarded a penalty when Ronadlo Rodney was penalized for handball in the box. Keys fired the ball to the right of Barrett who guessed correctly to parry behind for a corner.

Andrew Price was left to rue missed chances again after the final whistle.

“This sport can be very ungrateful. We should have come away with all three points…we did everything we could to win the game.

“We just have to keep working hard and go an unbeaten run to dig ourselves out of this hole we are in at the moment. We are playing good football we just need to get it together,” he concluded.

Carlos Garcia blamed complacency for not coming away with the win.

“We started out quite strong and scored very early but then we got complacent and let them back in the game. We had to change the system because of injuries to defenders but we dominated the second half. We wanted to win but a point isn’t bad.”

Boys Town remains rooted at the bottom of the table while Mobay United continue to trail leaders Waterhouse by two points.
