DARKSIDE WIN 2014 SHELLY-ANN FRASER-PRYCE SIX-A-SIDE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Darkside, beaten finalist in the 2013 inaugural Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Six-A-Side Football Competition, went one better when they defeated Miles United 1-0, to win the 2014 championship on Saturday December 6, 2014, at the Foska Oats Oval. In a very competitive game, the new champion got their goal from Adonis Maxwell in the ninth minute to remain unbeaten for the season. For their efforts Darkside, took the winners cash prize of $150,000.00, while Miles United received $80,000.00. Young Strikers defeated Choppaz 2-0, for third place and earned $50,000.00, while Choppaz was rewarded with $30,000.00. Monsterock won the Dress Parade at the start of the season and received $15,000.00, while Mothers received $10,000.00 for being the most disciplined team. All cash prizes were donated by Ambassador Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Glenroy Campbell, of Young Strikers, won the Leading Goal Scorer award with five (5) goals, and Adonis Maxwell won the Most Valuable Player award. Winners and awardees also received gift packages from title sponsors Digicel, and associate sponsors Grace, Wata, Tankweld and Foska Oats.

An elated two-time Olympic champion Fraser-Pryce said “It ‘s a great feeling when I see the smile on the faces of the players and members of the community, especially when they come up to you, shake your hand and say thanks. You feel a sense of satisfaction that you are contributing to the developement of a people, a community, and this beautiful island of Jamaica. Thanks to all those who have helped me to do this project and I am sure I will be back again next year”.
