Netball Jamaica launched its 2015 netball calendar with the Supreme Ventures Sunshine Series at the HEART College of Construction Services (formerly the Portmore HEART Academy) in Portmore.

The Sunshine Girls will take on England in a three test series to be played at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday and Sunday January 10 and 11 and on Tuesday January 13. The first two matches are scheduled for a 5:00pm start, while the third will start at 7:00pm.

The series will be used to gauge the state of preparedness of the Sunshine Girls for the Netball World Cup, which will be held in Sydney, Australia from August 7-16 where Jamaica has already qualified. The Sunshine Girls came fourth at the last World Cup in 2011 but will be looking to erase that performance with a golden showing as per their tagline for the series, which is ‘Gold Rush Down Under’.

The series will be ‘jam packed’ with several activities to delight the spectators, allow for the netballers to interact more with the public and showcase their versatility under different conditions. The first in the series of activities started with school tours earlier this month at Herbert Morrison in Montego Bay, Holmwood Technical in Manchester and Foga Road in Clarendon. Coming this Sunday there will be a ‘Wet Sunshine Water Party’ at Waves Beach in Portmore and will feature activities such as netball, football and entertainment from Tifa, Mr. G., Pattex and Razor B. There will also be at least one corporate visit with sponsor Wata, courtesy calls on the Prime Minister and the Governor General in January 2015 among other activities.

The series will also feature an After Party immediately following the first match plus a Celebrity vs Masters and a Corporate Team taking on an Entertainers invitational team during the second and third match respectively.

The team for the Supreme Ventures Sunshine Series will be selected later this month.

Assistant coach Annett Daley who spoke at the launch said that the team will now train at UWI using their board floor until the January series. She commended UWI for coming to their help as they had nowhere to train after the Leila Robinson Courts were closed and they were denied access the NISC due to outstanding bills.

Despite the significant challenges, Netball Jamaica is however looking for a good showing from the Sunshine Girls in the three test Series against England.

Supreme Ventures announced its $3,500,000 sponsorship for the series and outlined its plans to make it memorable for all especially those who attend the matches. The other sponsors are team sponsor Best Dressed, officials’ sponsor Jamaica National, hydration sponsor Wata and Powerade, transportation sponsor JUTC, SDF, JTB, Gilbert, media sponsors TVJ, TVJSN, Hitz FM, Gleaner, Klas ESPN Radio and Observer.
