The Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) launched the 2014/2015 season of the Jamaica National Super League and Jamaica National Major League on Thursday November 13th at the head office of the Jamaica National Building Society on Constant Spring Road.

The competitions which have struggled for sponsorship over the years have a total of four sponsors with a combined contribution of $5.22M. In addition to prize monies of approximately $750,000 to be allocated to the various winners in both competitions, clubs will benefit from a total allocation of $750,000 for club infrastructure development. A further $25,000 will be given to each club for the preparation of football fields for games.
The four sponsors for the competitions are, Jamaica National Building Society, Digicel, ATL Automotive Limited and Soccer Xpress.

Jamaica National, after who the competition has been named, has contributed $4.5M, while associate sponsors Digicel has contributed $560,000, ATL Automotive Limited $100,000 and Soccer Xpress $60,000.

Mr. Leon Mitchell, Assistant General Manager of Jamaica National, said his company was happy to come on board to sponsor the league.

“We are happy with the standard of play we saw last season and we are certain that it will be even better this year. The KSAFA will be putting the money in the right areas which will benefit the clubs immensely and help to raise the standard and the profile of the league.”

Twelve teams, divided into two zones, will contest the Super League, while 18 teams, divided into two zones of nine each, will contest the Major League.

The Super League teams will play the same number of games as the Major League teams before getting to the semi-final stages as their competition will feature cross zone games. A new feature to the competition, cross zone games are likely to be played every other Saturday at the Barbican field or the UWI Bowl as part of a double header.

KSAFA President, Ambassador A.B. Stewart Stephenson, noted the importance of the role played by KSAFA clubs in the development of football in the country.

“A lot of the teams in KSAFA have contributed significantly to the development of football in the country. Teams such as Harbour View and Arnett Gardens, to name a few have made significant investments in infrastructure which has helped to grow the sport. So we are committed to the continued growth and as such have included a line item in the budget for each participating club for club infrastructure.”

Stephenson also highlighted the performance of his executive in the first 100 days in office in which they have managed to attract 12 sponsors for all KSAFA run competitions among a list of other achievements.

The competition kicks off on Saturday November 22nd at the Barbican field with a double header in which two teams from both competitions will be on show.

The opening game will see Major League teams Duhaney Park and Marverly/Hughenden FC go head to head while the feature game will be the first cross zone game as Super League teams Bull Bay and August Town do battle.
